100 Things to do Before You Die

Dave Freeman, co-author of "100 Things to Do Before You Die," passed away at his Venice home on August 17th after falling and hitting his head. He was just 47 years old.

"He didn't have enough days, but he lived them like he should have," his co-author Neil Teplica said.

While Freeman and Teplica’s book is centered on travel, Freeman’s death (and the motorcycle accident I witnessed on I-5 last week) got me thinking about the 100 things I want to do before I die.

Do you have a list? I encourage you to make one with your most dreamy and impractical goals and hopes for your life. And that doesn’t necessarily mean “become the first female referee in the NFL” or “spend a night in jail” (both of which are on my list, but will undoubtedly never happen)—it could be as simple as “learn to play the cello”, “get a tattoo”, or “become a parent”—pretty admirable goals if you ask me.

Try creating a list of your own, and check out Freeman’s book if travel is a big part of your plans. And if "find my dream job" is pivotal, but seems unattainable or out of reach, or if you just don’t know where to start, know that the UW Career Center is here to help you with all your questions and concerns.

We’d love to hear something from your list—post a comment here!

My top ten are already complete, and I'm living one almost daily. I do play guitar, and took a small amount of lessons. The most important things I have accomplished in the guitar category is to build several custom guitars (and bass guitars) and to put together an awesome home studio.

Along with my guitar related musical passion, I am working on several websites to promote my interest in these things!

My primary site is:
http://www.diyguitartone.com

The next thing I'd like to accomplish would be to go on an Alaskan cruise line for my 25th anniversary. That's next March - 2010.

Peace,
Scotty @ diyguitartone.com

-Learn to ice skate...

100 things to do? Isn't it too much. Even Morgan Freeman & Jack Nicholson don't do that much (I can't remember the movie).
Just do simple things but meaningful, can be remedies to other people soul

Muhahehahe I'd like to run out of things I want to do. Thats what I want. Contentment because I think peace would be waiting around the corner. :D

Things I want to do before I die:
1. Sell my house
2. Organize my garage
3. Give away stuff
4. Cook too many foods and eat until I'm bloated
5. Raise chickens in my yard
6. Ride an angry horse
7. Swim in an icy water
8. Hug a homeless person
9. Give money to the poor
10. See the world.
11. Retire happy
12. Renunite with all my friend and family.

1.) reach 1000+ people to christ

It's more about when you do it, rather then what you will do. Do it now, and decide what it is you want to do later. That way you still have time.

Ahh "The List"!! I could die today and no one can say I haven't lived life, that's for sure. Still, there are many things I still want to do.

One of them is to free dive for marlin, not to kill them, just to experience them in the wild.

Getting married, having children, hajj pilgrim, learning piano/flute, travelling to romantic hideaways, having SOHO, having my dreamhouse, win thosands of dolars lottery.

I haven't made a list yet, but the one thing I'd really like to do is to fall in love.

Before I die I wat to Have a great holiday in Bali

I would love to learn to sing.

Walset County Veterinarian

Great post.

I want to be a Millionaire.
Thats only the thing i want to do before die.

LOL, if I made a list of things I wanted to do before dieing, it would be quite long! I really do want to travel the world though, would be awesome.

Bob

Here is my list:
1. Travelling to Hongkong
2. Visiting Paris
3. Writing a book.
4. Swimming with dolphins
5. Learning love quotes and telling one to your girlfriend/wife every day

I don't want to die and so I don't make a list!

I like the "spend a night in jail" one. That would be exciting, although I don't think I'll go through with it either (not to mention I'd have to commit a crime to do it).

My cousin (who is a model citizen and was caught "trespassing"-- long story) spent the night in jail and got her one phone call and everything. It is an awesome story to tell-- you should see people's eyes bug when they hear that sweet little Kathy spent the night in lock-up! But, like you, Greg, I don't think I'll be catching z's in the slammer anytime soon. If you can't do the crime, you won't get to do the time, I guess :) Thanks for writing! -Cara (UW Career Center)

Fun post!

Here are my top 5:

1 - Visit every continent
2 - Volunteer in Africa
3 - Attend a culinary school
4 - Learn to speak French
5 - Hold a spider (I'm really afraid of spiders)

- Kuy, Software Engineeer

Freeman inspired millions of people. It's too bad his life ended so suddenly. His teachings and tragic end can teach us a thing or two about life. Numero uno on my list is to live my life in the moment, appreciate it for what it is, as it's all we really have. Don't plan for the future, plan for the now.

The wistfulness of youth. :)
I have a long standing goal to help my sister remodel her home.

My condolences to Dave's family on his passing.

Here's a few things I'd like to do:

1. Travel around in a caravan with my family (hubby & 2 kids).
2. Improve my business profits so there are no more money worries! ...& hubby doesn't have to work so hard.
3. Start competing in horse events again.
4. Buy our own acreage again so I don't have to agist the horses anymore!

Rachel

Thanks Cara,

It always seems like there is never enough time. I guess we have to make the time instead of wait for it.

Hello Cara,

I want to just be myself. To know what I want need feel and to freely express myself. I know that for myself I would like to travel in the next few years.

Thanks,
Peter Parker

1. I like to build a home.
2. I live a happy life with my family.
3. Work hard and earn lot.

I really liked Gary's list. Mine is also the same. Will continue from there. In addition to that,

8. make someone cheerful
9. give a listening ear to the broken
10. share what you have with a needy person
11. share the secret of getting to heaven with someone
12. live each day with eternity in mind and do things for eternity

100 things to do before I die: Heres my top 5.

1. Find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis.
2. Learn to dive
3. Visit all the Maldivian islands
4. Dive/snorkel with Manta rays/ Whale shark.
5. Renew my wedding vows on Bora bora.

1. My Health should be nice.
2. I like to build a home.
3. I live a happy life with my family.

1. Set foot on each of the seven continents. Antarctica might be a tough one, but once you’ve reached all seven you can truly call yourself a world traveler.

2. Cross a country on a bicycle. A bicycle tour takes some planning, but it beats being separated from a country though a passenger-side window.

3. Ride something bigger than a horse. Trekking through the jungle on the back of a two story tall elephant will surely be something you remember forever.

4. Live like a local for a month. The experience of visiting native peoples will give you way more insight into another way of life than two years hopping from one backpacker ghetto to the next.

5. Donate my old car and help out needy children.

6. Learn another language. This is definitely a weighty and time-consuming proposition, but there are plenty of resources out there to ease the process.

7. Go heli-skiing. The access to snow and terrain via heli is different that anything else you’ll ever experience.

8. Travel India by train. With its extensive rail network, this mode of transport is the best way to see one of the world’s most colorful and diverse countries.

9. Climb one of the world’s Seven Summits. Climbing mountains is not for the faint-hearted, but everyone has had a dream of standing atop one.

10. Dive with a whale shark. Swimming with these gentle giants is among the most powerful wilderness experiences in the world.

hahahahahaha.......I'd like to run out of things I want to do. Thats what I want. Contentment because I think peace would be waiting around the corner.

After visiting the Bahamas this past, my list entails lots of vacations. If I could do 1 thing, it would be a trip to Fiji, and every hot resort that exists :) Other things would be to find enough money to own all the cars I want.

3 things that every man should do:

  1. Plant a tree
  2. Build a house
  3. Father a son

...and besides those three i'd love too:

  • Live in Japan for a year
  • Visit Machu Picchu
  • Watch the sun set and rise
  • Try kayaking and climbing walls
  • Fall in love with a stranger who'll become my wife
  • Mario

speaking of skydiving, as many of you have ... if you are in the state of Washington ... check out 'skydive snohomish'. I 'jumped' last year for the first time [tandom jump] and hope to do it again and again and again. totally scary, intense, fun.

Thats always been a great question, im not sure the list would fit on the page! Heres a few family friendly things i want to do:

1. Learn to fly an aeroplane.
2. Learn to play the guitar.
3. Hold my own foam party (Dont ask!).
4. Own a business.
5. Set up industry in third world countries and revive their way of life.

Its a start!
Ste

5. be able to volunteer on peace missions
6. travel on all corners of the earth and check out wildlife.
7. of course be with the one i love in doing all of these things!

This post is very entertaining. Here's my list:

another cool one would be visit a country in each continent :D
