I know many of you are looking for work.
Overall, how much fun is job searching? Not much. Is job searching a necessity for most of us? Yup.
Is job searching just about searchin' the web & applying to advertised listings? It doesn't have to be.

I challenge all of you to spend more time talking with people than submitting your resume to jobs so many other people are applying to.
Contact a fellow Husky [alumni!] and arrange an informational interview at a coffee shop on ‘da ave. Attend our popular Spring Fair and maximize your time by following Lokesh's wonderful advice. Reconnect with an old friend and brainstorm ideas on employers to target. Attend one of our career workshops and meet someone new. Reconnect with a favorite high school teacher or mentor and mention you are looking for a summer job & see if they have any ideas.
Yes, networking needs time & energy ... which we all know is so valuable these days ... believe me when I say this - making connections & networking is ‘time well spent'.
When I graduated from WWU, all I did in my 1st real post-college job search was look in the classifieds each week and send off some resumes. I was being lazy. I should have known better, as I did work as an undergrad in the career center. Don't fall into that easy/passive trap that I did. Mix it up - use a variety of search strategies and spend the bulk of your time talking & connecting with humans. Don't forget about our extensive online database of jobs & internships.
Yes, the interweb & email are excellent tools ... but often what we need to do is step away from the computer and embrace the art of networking.
