Success

Anyone up for some philosophy? Here's some tidbits to think about:

* What is success? * How does one become successful? * What does it look & feel like to be successful? * How do you measure success?

Personally, I'm a fan of the following quote. A wise friend of mine, many years ago, shared this well-known quote with me, which I now share with you.

Success "To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."

There's debate as to who originated this quotebut most folks believe it's either Ralph Waldo Emerson [late 1800s] or Bessie Stanley [early 1900s].

As a career counselor who talks extensively with individuals looking for jobs & making transitions, here's some general advice I like to share:

* Uncover, embrace & then share/market your strengths
* Take risks, be patient & dream big
* Always focus on the positive and what you can learn from life experiences
* Work & play hard
* Be yourself
