Earth Day
Top 5 Ways You Can Tell Today is Earth Day:
5. Google looks gorgeous.
4. You walk past a girl on the quad whose t-shirt reads, "Stop destroying our planet. It's where I keep all my stuff."
3. Your mom emails, reporting that she and the kindergarten class she teaches just spent an hour pulling ivy off trees. (Or is that just me?)
2. Al Gore emails you to join a call to congress to push forth clean energy legislation.
1. You feel SUPER guilty for forgetting to compost your coffee cup yesterday. Bad Earthling.
In all seriousness, it's a shame we dedicate just one day a year to the preservation and protection of our planet. But plenty of employers are dedicated to "greening" our country and the world, and guess what-- they're hiring. Read on...
Check out career opportunities with Greenpeace, The Sierra Club, and The Nature Conservancy. Get involved with the writing of regulations at the Environmental Protection Agency. You can also get your green on by walking, biking, or bussing to your nearest theater for Disneynature's "Earth", in theaters today! (If you go between now and Sunday, they'll plant a tree in your name.) Get tips on living green from grist.org, and check out what Patrick had to say in his February blog post.
So use this day to reignite your determination to keep our planet thriving, and keep yourself greenified all year round. And, if the spirit moves you, look into working for Earth for a living. The benefits package is amazing.
What are you doing to green your life? Post a comment and share with others!

I think we need to make a bigger deal over Earth Day. Not necessarily for us but for our children. If they grow up understanding the magnitude of what Earth Day is really all about then I think we all have a shot at a better future. Go Green Go!!! - Gary the Golfer
I used to think that the problem with humans destroying the planet was that there were just too many humans. Then I learned that ants outweigh humans by 10 to 1, but nobody things ants are destroying the earth.
It is how we live, how we consume, and how we pollute that is destroying the earth. It is going to take changing everything about our lives and our worlds to change these facts. I hope we can do it in time. I doubt we can.

I think everyday should be Earth Day! We can all celebrate this every single day by doing our part for the preservation of our planet.

You are completely right Cara. It's a big shame. Our planet is dying and we dedicate only one day a year for the preservation and protection of our planet. I invite you all to join "Stop Global Warming
Virtual March" and become part of the movement to demand our leaders freeze and reduce carbon dioxide emissions now.

thanks for bringing importance to earth day. I think with everyone chipping in earth day will last for years and we'll change the world together with new green ideas.
Earth day might only be one day but I'm sure most 'aware' people try to practice being green year round. It's the big companies that concern me. I can relate to the last commenter as we are in a similar business, house and pet sitting, and never miss an opportunity to do the right thing if we can, but its hard.
Yes, it is unfortunate that Earth Day only gets one day of the year. Oh well, you take advantage of it while you can! I actually work in real estate and decided to change it up a little and instead of driving people from place to place, I tried creating a real estate video of a property and just sent them a link to it. I know it's a pretty small thing but hey, I feel good about it :)! At least I can feel good that other people and myself didn't have to drive to the place.
I think getting a majority of the people on this planet aware of the amount of pollution major industries are dumping into the air and our water ON JUST ONE DAY would shake them up.
“We the People” are the boss, not politicians or CEOs. It is going to take a truly organized group of educated people in our country to wake up those who think they are in power to save this planet.
Nice post Cara! Thanks for sharing!
Kind regards,

Thanks for info and your 5 ways is very good.
Forgive me father for I am a sinner. I drive a Hummer H2, have a power boat and a jet ski. I can't help myself. I grew up poor wanting some cool stuff. Now that I have the money to buy it I feel guilty owner.

We forgive you, Tom! (And we want to go out on your boat, too.) Just keep recycling, and maybe plant a tree every once in a while to offset the Hummer. Thanks for writing, and keep your eye on the blog! -Cara
The earth day is my favourite day in year
I noticed that in our office that earth day was quite the topic of conversation and the only reason I can put that down to was that google featured highly in their search page.
My family and i love earth day. hope after this it can help Melayu Boleh in my country to support this day!

What astounds me everytime I see commercials is that now there is even a "green" pizza (no, I don't mean rotten vegetables) with ecologically produced ingredients.
I am really sad about the fact, that we acutally only deserve one day to our mother earth, it should be more like
1 day per week,
1 week per month,
1 month per year
This comes from a chinese "test" to see if you can abstain things you like.
What do you think about it?

Yes Google was cool today.:) My wife and I own a dog daycare in Toronto and we have our own 3 dogs. We try to be "green" by not using plastic bags when picking up poops, and now we learned that there are "green" animal toys which do not use any plastic or chemicals. We are considering using them. The big issue we have is idling the car.Dogs sometimes have to travel with us in the car. One of us usually stay in the car when we have to stop somewhere and do something so that the dogs are always watched by one of us but we have to keep the airconditioning on in the summer when it really gets hot. Humans can stand it but some dogs can't...but people come to us and tell us to stop idling. I understand that but when it's over 30degrees and so hot, we have no choice. We feel dilemma...
