Movies Movies Movies
Why am I posting about movies on a career blog?
Not exactly sure. Maybe 'cause ...
1) Movies = escapism for many, as there is plenty of gloomy stuff in the world to want to escape from these days, eh?
2) I'm a movie nut. Since I was a little kid, can't get enough of them. It all started with Star Wars & Indiana Jones. Then John Hughes movies in the 1980s. Then Quentin Tarantino & Spike Lee in the 1990s. Loved working for years in a small-ish video store [yes, pre-DVD era; "Movies To Go"]. In the 2000s, I'm all 'bout indie flicks, documentaries, mockmumentaries & HBO/Showtime DVD series. Big fan of Netflix [cancelling my basic TV service & cable was one of my bestest decisions ever]. Have learned much about life, and yes, sometimes careers, via movies & doc's.
3) As a counselor, I often hear students & alumni describe a desire to break into some type of role within the film industry.
For those of you wanting to build a career/life working in the movies, here are some resources to explore:
NW Production Index; RoadTrip Nation: Film & TV; Entertainment Careers; Motion Picture Studios; Casting Society of America; Showbiz Jobs; The Riley Guide;
How to Get a Job in Film; California Film Industry; Film Industry Bloggers; UW Cinema Studies Program; UW Cinema Studies Program - internships & careers; BollywoodWorld
'Read more' for some of my favorites. Many of these touch on the dynamics of life, some relate to jobs & careers. I'm curious, what movies and/or documentaries have influenced YOU? Please share with us via the comment feature below.
